Me and my wandering thoughts in Eibsee

What happens when 3,700 years ago, a huge glacier backed down and caused a landslide that left a basin filled with water? This— an amazing nature wonder : The birth of Eibsee

This place in the foot of the Zugspitze, the tallest peak in Germany is my new favourite. I was not completely over with the somber beauty of Königsee, the king of all lakes in Bavaria, but then yes, I discovered another alpine lake, probably hailed as the most beautiful lake in Bavaria, the Eibsee.Adding to it´s beauty is its idyllic location–a mountain lake at the foot of the Alps!

When you´re here, you´ve got everything that you need for a serene time–the mountains, crystal clear blue waters of the lake, and a lush forest. Here, I am definitely at peace with myself.Look at these photos…

I was super excited when we had this trip last June.It was not the peak summer heat yet so we really had an amazing weather for a good hike. We drove in the direction of Grainau, Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Zugspitze. We packed our backpacks, brought some breakfast along with us and off we go.This is one of our stops for our nature tripping and castle chasing in Bavaria this summer.

We´ve reached the lake ´s parking area in the right time.Traffic was light from Munich A95 and in short time, we reached Grainau. The moment I saw the peaks of the Zugspitze, me heart began to race. It is so beautiful, this is definitely Berg-liebe! My hiking boots and my camera are ready for this new adventure.I don´t know but I am always this excited whenever I explore a new place. This breathtaking view surprised me and I was in awe, thankful that I have the chance to see this.

How could this had happened? I can´t believed that this paradise was caused by a natural catastrophe 3000 years ago?

We tooked our time walking, hiking and exploring surrounding the lake. It is very clean,no trash, very tranquil and most of the time, we had the place by ourselves. Of course, that happens when you are fearly! I was enjoying taking photos and just breathing-in the fresh Bavarian breeze.I wish I have this view everyday…

The hike is light, and my daughter is in good mood and used to hiking with us. As long as we play name games and superlatives along the hike, she is good. Now it´s time to put on our mat and have our own picnic-breakfast in Eibsee. We brought some tea, croissants and Breze and some fruits, and yes-we have our luxury breakfast with a view! Where else can you have this view….

The neighbourhood beside the lake is so peaceful. All we hear is the sound of the water, so clean and clear. The colors are amazing. The reflections in the waters is somewhat surreal. I am an artist so this is a magnet of inspiration to me. I just can´t get enough of these colors, i thought they belong somehow in my pallete and depicted in my abstract paintings.

It is possible to become a changed person after a long hike in nature. We get ou when the sun is not out, then slowly our senses are awaken. After a walk, we return to our homes feeling different. This enigma is always a mystery to me. I always have this whenever I struggle todo my morning run. After my run, I feel completely different from the time that I have started. My wandering thoughts are ever-present, constantly reminding me to be grateful, to continue to live, to look forward and just dream.

This summer was quite special to me. I worked hard for my paintings. There are many nights where I struggle to keep my hopes high and my sanity in a practical sense-level.I dreamt of seeing my loved ones again and see different places.I never gave up.

When we walk, we walked towards a goal. When we approached that goal, we felt our bodies cry out because we are tired.I have endless thoughts like this during hikes. When i looked around how precious this place is, I am back to being grateful.

Eibsee is a great family destination especially if you love nature, hiking and slow pace living. Here, there are no crowds, no busy streets–just you and nature. The mountains are silent watchers, the lake has deep solace, the trees have their own tunes, the place itself is a magical retreat.

The 7.4 km hike is almost over and our eyes feasted on every nook´s beautiful views. There are numerous platforms where you can get up close with the waters and in Summer, when temperature is bearable, it is allowed to swim. This place is protected so paddle boat is also allowed. We busied ourselves looking at the family of ducks and looked for crabs. My daughter still keep her “newfound treasure” crab which she found in the lakeside.

This place has everything which is typical in every Bavarian lakes we´ve visited. There are plenty of restaurants, play areas, beer gardens and picnic areas. We planned to have a traditional Bavarian lunch up in the mountains so we took the cable car to bring us to Eibsee Alm. A restaurant up in the mountains with a gorgeous playground is defintely another highlight for this hike!

One day, I´ll set my foot again in this place and see this place in winter as well.

I´ll be writing more of our trip in Oberammergau, chasing King Ludwig´s castles, and admiring frescoes and wood carvings soon!If you have more time to kill, please check out my post about the gorgeous Partnachklamm Gorge which is also nearby to this destination.

  1. Quite a change of scenery from the Singapore post I just read! First I was sweating in the urban rainforest with you, and now I’m there nibbling croissants and planning a painting in my mind 🥰 Do you every bring your supplies and actually paint at these places? Or do you have to hurry to go back because the hike takes a while? And, most importantly, are there ticks? Over here, they have infested all the forests nearby and they bear lyme & borreolosis. Also, we don’t have mountains! So I’d very much like to hike over there, looks amazing. Happy that you daughter comes along, too

  2. We have a yearly vaccine for Ticks, here we call it Zecken. I´ve got 3 doses actually cuz it´s my first time getting them. We don´t have Ticks in Phillippines. We always spray insect repelleant before hiking and always close hiking pants–you know, in Germany they have all gear for every season Hehe..

It is really amazing to watch a tropical sunset, it is different here in Europe as well and far even spectacular in the middle east. It is something that I personally experience.
I keep it all in my mind then when I decided to paint, the color pallete comes along. I dunno, i´m really shallow, i get easily touched by simple nature wonder like sunrise, sunsets or a sight of rainbow.
I would prefer nature or the beach rather than city full of scycrapers..

  3. We have a vaccine for ticks too but it’s quite new for people to get activated and take it. Since my kid got a tick on his cheek last summer in the city, I was thinking I’d get it for them and me pretty soon. But it doesn’t protect against everythjng they carry…
