Glow of the Dawn and OrangeAutumn skies

I took a morning walk and feeling excited and cold, I know it´s just gonna be a great day. I don´t know, my body clock is just set on waking up early, I can´t stay in bed longer than 6 o´clock! There´s something about watching the breaking of Dawn that hooked me. The stillness of the empty streets, the bright street lights, the blinks and changing colors of the traffic signs, the soft wind, and of course, the changing colors of the skies.

The fact that I´m standing alone in the street really makes me feel so small and on the bright side, unbothered. Well at least I have the best views…

My neighbourhood is surprisingly quiet around this time.I love the autumn feels in my neighbourhood. Only few cyclists busied themselves in the streets, probably going on some early errands. It´s Autumn break so schools are closed, furthermore, the children are probably still snoring in their beds. I recognized the same old man, walking his dog, actually two dogs, with lights attached on their necks. I find it funny though. When I run, I often bump into him because he also frequented the paths along the river.

Then there´s this lady, walking with sticks. She´s really sporty and fit, I love her attitude because she´s also an early-riser. She probably doesn´t need to go to work anymore and just enjoy her time.

It only takes a few minutes to admire this beauty and it´s gone. If you´re slow then it will be gone in seconds, and skies turned once again into gray.I am glad I took a snap of it, engraving it in my memory and added to my archives. I wished I could watched pricely sunrises like this, if I have the luxury of time and not bothered by daily routines and chores. Still reflecting on this, I stumbled upon the photo calandar that my friend had gave me.it has a nice verse on it about autumn, sorry it´s written in German but I´ll try to translate. I find it really meaningful and would like to share with you.

" Das Leben ist für mich wie die Jahreszeiten.
Der Frühling ist unsere Kindheit.
Der Sommer kommt, wenn wir beginnen,
nach unseren Traümen zu greifen.
Der Herbst steht für diese besondere Zeit,
wenn wir ein wenig kürzer treten, innehalten,
entspannen und unser bischeriges Leben überdenken."
- Die Weisheit deines Herzens

It´s a perfect time to take a minute and pause. It doesn´t need to be long, as long as it´s meaningful. It says life is like the seasons. Spring is our childhood. When summer comes when we start to reach our dreams.Autumn stands when we start to take a slower pace in life, relax, and reflect on our bizaare life. It all comes out from the wisdom of our heart.

After my moment of reflection, I hopped again on my bike and cycled over the bridge where I had a glimpse of the colorful autumn foliage reflected on Danube river. What a morning. Now I hurried to go to bakery to get some fresh bread , knowing that the reality of life awaits for me.

How was your morning so far?

Ever wondered why Orange color is so distracting? or why I find peace in hikingin the Mountains?

Until then,Tschüss!

Autumn hiking in Felsentor Unteremmendorf

Charmed by natural lights from the wild forests of Unteremmendorf

So what do you call a great hike?

For days we´ve been itching for a good autumn family hike , lucky enough, I had a weekend free so then off we go.The weather was great , and after breakfast, and only half an hour drive, we arrived to our new hiking place–in Unteremmendorf . The main attration in this place is the “Torfelsen“, or the Rock Gate. It´s a natural rock formation splendour and believed to be a part of the entrace of the three castles ,named “Torfelsen“, “Saufelsen” and “Hubertusfelsen” which were believed to be owned by Messrs. Emmendorf, a family of servants from Eichstatt. There is a 25- meter deep cave that attached to the gate and we thought it is quite cool to explore it. My daughter have never seen a cave, a real one alone!

Here in Germany, names of places are hard to memorize, actually I can speak of it but sometimes it´s so easy to forget them. But knowing German grammar, when I noticed the last syllable, dorf, that reminds me of a tiny village.Well, basically this place is easy to navigate since it is in the vicinity of Altmühltal valley, panoramaweg. If you lived here in Bavaria and in the southern part like us here in Ingolstadt, then eveyone knows Altmühltal. We have explored this area so much, and it actually has a lot to offer, for every ages, all in 4 seasons. But especially Autumn, it´s in its most colorful colors which I loved.

This hike was from 2 weeks ago, when the Autumn fog and the chill outside with bright sun is really enjoyable, a golden moment in October. Now, not anymore, nearing almost Halloween, it´s all grey, dark, gloomy and cold. The other day that I was cycling to work it seemed like it´s already winter, and I don´t really care If I´m already wearing a warm boots.

Anyway, this hike was a friendly family hike for us, approx. 7 kms and as usual, we took our time and made few stops to snack and let my daughter play. This path is also famous for mountain trail biking and connected to other panorama hikes with Ruins and castle views here in Bavaria. My daughter urges to bring her hiking stick but I know that in the middle of the hike,it´s me ending up carrying it, which is really typical.

So who doesn´t need a break when the sights are this pretty?

The beauty of nature is quite simple, the silence, the trees, the bright sun, these path, crisp autumn leaves which cracks everytime we walked on it….this place is quite magical.

The lights get through the trees is simply enchanting

The first part of the hike was almost flat. We hear the sound of the gushing water in the small brook that flows from the forest into the side street of the village. We parked our car in the foot of the village and the small path led us to right into the woods. From the beginning, I h It was a quiet place, and I love adoring the small gardens filled with autumn blooms. I haven´t seen anyone else hiking, or probably they´ve taken another path. There are lots of piled woods and tree branches along the way. That was a smart thing to do, those woods will definitely give warmth during the upcoming cold months. The sights were typical, yellow-orange leaves of the trees gives us a great backdrop but then the soil was damp, muddy and yes, wet from last night´s rain.We didn´t mind that though.

Then our search begun. Searching for mushrooms and other autumn finds is exciting. From odd spider webs to unusual colorful foliages up to the dried pine cones, they are all adorable during this time of the year. I just loved how fog makes everything misty and everything else in the wilderness seemed magical.I enjoyed taking photos of them as well!

At the end of the path we´ve met few people who goes in the same direction as ours and that always gave me relief. There was also a big family at the end, with a baby, another stroller and a dog. Then came another group of older women who are busy chatting about their dogs and the weather. Then it was a perfect time to have a break and some warm tea. When we do family hikes, we always pack a warm thermos, drinks and snacks, because it always saves the day.

The viewing point did not dissapoint us, but I think the view that we´ve got when we hiked through the ruins of the castle in Markt Essing and Kipfenberg is much better. The valley looks the same, nothing special and the river Altmühl view here is quite plain compared when we hiked through Burg Randeck.

The view from the top of Unteremmendorf

We´ve continued walking, this time searching for more mushrooms. This time the path gets slimmer and some uphill. Finally weve seen the signs that we are almost near to the Rock Gate. The moment we saw the slight narrowed path, covered with fallen leaves, this view surprised us. We´ve finally found the gate.

In Winter, this path is not opened to public and no winter path maintenance. But I think it would really looked lovely when everything is covered in white…like a winter wonderland plus this rock gate!

There´s a tree where you can climb and famous photoop site and of course, my kid did not missed that!I guess the beauty of hiking actually lies on the whole fun you´ve got while you do it , the hardship, missed turns, and not when you actually reached the summit of the point you are looking for. The adventure of searching the paths and looking for the right signs makes it all worthwhile!

Just beside the Felsentor is the cave where bats and nocturnal creatures lived and hide. They are probably hanging there, sleeping so we don´t wanna disturb them. There´s a sign that this area is protected so we did not dare to go inside the cave. Also I am not really fond or excited to meet some bats at this time. My daughter was excited and curious but then she did not walked further.

Felsentor, a rock gate in Unteremmendorf
Why do moss stays “Green” ?

What I loved about the Altmühltal Panorama weg is its diversity. We´ve seen castles, ruins, huge boulders of rocks, stones, carved mountains, wild forests, caves, bridges and historical churches and museums. Everything is just fascinating and each place has its own gem. We´ve done quite more hikes from this area and it always surprises me that there are more to see. The sceneries, the wildlife that we´ve seen are all truly special. I guess this Rock gate has been important during the old times but I am personally glad that in the middle of the woods, we were able to see it during this time.

Many times, my kid doesn´t want to walk anymore, making tantrums and feeling bored .The choice is not to give up. When we looked back at this time and looking at our photos, we actually forget all the troubles and problems. Just like any other hike, when we´re going down, it gets everything easier…and merrier.

Down in the valley, we rewarded ourselves with a warm lunch in Kratzmühle which have a very nice lake view , a mini golf area and a large playground. There were lots of bikers who took their break and many families doing the same things as we do. My daughter had a blast playing there while we enjoyed some day of rest. I wish the sun continues to shine like this through the coming cold months…oh how I wish!

What a simple, lovely day.It already feels like we are back in normal.

What does makes a simple hike great—I guess it´s just a day like this!

When was the last time you went for a hike?

Until next time, Tschüss!

German word of the day :Frühlingsfreude

The first signal of Spring –Crocuses

Here´s another interesting German word : Frühlingsfreude (n) which means Spring Joy.

Frühlingsfreude is actually a combined words of Frühling ( Spring) and Freude( Joy) . Anything that brings gladness in hearts during Spring .As always, nature comes first but it can also means a simple act of kindness, hearing all day long the chirping of birds, or even running on an early morning with fog.

Over the past few days these are what gives me Frühlingsfreude;

I smiled when I finally saw these tiny yellow buds, and purple Crocuses! They definitely brings me a feeling of new beginnings. It´s still so cold outside and mostly minus temps, good thing the sun shines graciously.

The amazing smell all over the house filled with the scent of freshly home baked Èmpanadas` and Frühlingsrolle or Lumpia for a light Dinner.

Frühlingrollen or Lumpia tastes better when shared with friends.

Taking long walks while soaking up under the sun.

I don´t know why but there are plenty of swans and ducks over here.Everypond, lake and river it is impossible not to notice a duck.So yes, seeing them at this time is always refreshing. The other day, we sat by the river and ducks came to us immediately, waiting for some bread pieces…!

I had also few trips to Garden shops ( since they finally reopened!!!) to get some soil , pebbles , fertilizers and seeds. This Spring I wanted to start a new Hochbeet ( or elevated garden) to plant some veggies and herbs). Its still minus temps at night so I am waiting until the last frost then I could proceed with garden work.

What had made you smile lately?

Until then, Tschüss!

Frigid hands and warm Toes

Frigid Hands and Warm Toes

Hello February! I decided to make another post about my Winter Photo journal this year. Yes, this Winter is abnormally normal that I am taking notes of it.

Navigating or neighborhood and taking notes on Nature´s daily surprise

Aside from the Pandemic, it is quite abnormal, I think not only for me ,but for most of us.Our days here in Germany is normally quite the same, quiet, in solitude of lockdown, and staying safe and sound. Our navigation is still within these parameters ; Supermarkets, Parks and running, Pharmacy if we need something and weekend markets.

Since yesterday is the 31st of January ,so far we set another record, ( well we started to make records!) and surprisingly, so far we have walked and run for about 108.46 km in 22 activities this month alone! It means we could have been walking farther than Münich and Nürnberg!

The water´s level on the Danube river is continously on the rise. Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany

We decided to follow the trail beside the river and so far we´ve loved it.It´s quite beautiful that Winter exposes us to many great views, aside from bald trees and fallen branches.

With my 6 year old who managed to embrace the walking trend here in Bavaria

This Winter, I began to appreciate walking on crisp, chunky white snow. The sound it makes us happy and reminds us of our winter vacations in Austria. My winter boots has been an angel and keeping me on tabs on neverending changing seasons. Now I understand why one of the best advice I´ve got since I came here is to invest in a good winter jacket and boots. They are really a life-saver.

White fields of dreams

The last days and weeks were combination of Snow, rain and stormy weather. We got used to it and now everything is covered again in white snow.I am still grateful that once again, walking in solitude have have helped us to stay sane, nothing else to complain.I am telling you, the reality of Homeschooling and everything is no joke. But the moment we stepped outside and breathe fresh air, our moods were changed. An hour of sledding in the snow is certainly a miracle drug.Sometimes it´s hard to sleep if we haven´t take a walk!

I really find it funny when I realized what a small world we have because we often meet our neighbours and friends outside while walking, it´s like a big agenda , the highlight of our days!Every snow day is different from the other, so my winter journal is really diversified.

Today we walked through the Danube river and the water´s level is continuously rising. It rained for couple of days now and watching the water level becomes our pastime. My daughter was filled with high spirits, so amazed by so many fallen trees covered in snow around and for her, it´s an adventure trail, a maze. She told me that this happened because of the imbalance in the elements, she meant water, ice, fire and earth.I got lost for a while but then followed her stories and in the end, I realized she was telling me the Lego Ninjago Saga.

When it comes to Lego Ninjago, we are serious about it!

I wish adults can think like children for a change.Talking to children is quite fascinating and they give you unique, practical sometimes ludicrous answers to everything. With them, life is uncomplicated, happier, and That the moment they see snow, their plan is fixed. One time I was doing my late night walking and I still saw children sledding in pitch dark nights. It´s like they don´t want the snow to go away, time is frozen and the magic ends…

Winter in my city where snow, water and wind meet at both ends! Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany
Watching the river current passed by…
Hidden away from the crowds and noise.Snow dusted trees makes that ” Silence of Winter” really loud.

Watching the foliages and plants covered in white washed snowy wonder is truly a magical sight.I guess despite the cold and agitation of frigid hands, we are okay with it.Enough with complaining, but hey, aren´t they beautiful?I saw that the paths are already covered with so many footprints, so I guess there were more early earth-walkers that has been here before us.As early as 6 am, people are out taking morning walks…

Watching nature´s wonder in Winter , Ingolstadt, Bavaria

I think I am getting good in knowing which plants stay green in Winter and which one gets bald first.

And now, it´s time for another walk!Stay safe everyone, have a great week. Tschüss.

Tschüss 2nd Christmas Day, Servus Mr. Sunday Frost!

A little Frostbite will complete this photo though! , Germany 2020

Today was cold, I felt cold when I went outside. I easily get cold feet so I am not a big fan of Winter. Ugly gardens, bare trees, big bulky jackets and freezing hands. We all miss that good kind of snow, the kind of a white winter wonderland snowy landscapes but I guess here in the Southern part of Germany is not that all white now…it´s grey but cold. Actually we already drooling and have plans on sledding and rolling down the hill once we have enough snowdays but then…. nothing!

We dreamt of that white Christmas, but we had only rains, wind and more rainshowers.

Still I am out for my daily nature walks and runs. See,I´ve learned to dressed up for the weather.I actually own now several types of Jackets, just for me to survive the seasons here.Weihnachten is gone, the 1st and the 2nd said Tscüss already, but there´s always way too much food during Christmas, most especially on Christmas day. Toomany Chocolate Santa Claus as well!

Here in Germany, we have 2 days of Christmas, imagine that. I really don´t know why one day is not enough, it´s just the way it goes here. The weeks before Christmas is already loaded with lots of Christmas cookies and Glühwein (mulled wine), then comes the Raclettes and grilling, and Fondues, and endless snacking….so we got to move!

Frosted Fall flower in the Park nearby

Anyway, after the 2nd day of Christmas comes Mr. Frost. But again, it was not the same as last year. I noticed in my Archives that I had more photos of last year´s Frosty days but then today was just a teaser. Well at least it makes the dead flowers and leaves look attractive.

I am still thankful of every sunrise view from my Kitchen window

So everyday, I decided to always have my morning run and take long leisure walks. You know those walks to help you calm down, destress, and just think of nothing. I also take a walk to help my body with all the digestion that needs to be done . Yes, there should always a reason to eat a slice of homebaked cake. Here in Germany, we always have the Coffee/Tea plus Cake time ( Kaffee und Kuchen) even if it´s Christmas, we´ve got to have a slice of cake.

As I am walking to the new track, ( I said it was new because the asphalt was new and the road looks well), I was really feeling well and relaxed. Normally in Winter I only do 5 km rounds but I decided to run further. The sun was out and it shines its golden rays on barren fields, casting shadows on thin wimpy tree branches, and setting a downcast mood somehow.

I actually find the views simply breathtaking.

I discovered new running tracks, this time with views. I am so glad that detours lead to great discoveries. I am already looking forward to running more in this new paths in Spring and Summer. I was completely alone, with only the chirping of birds that can be heard. The path was muddy and the earth smell like mud. When all the leaves of the trees are gone, you can see more of the area. Some areas that I never imagined that existed is now in full views like the hidden bridges, small pathways to the woods, and the treehouses.

The bird nests on top of the trees made me smile. I was reminded of the day where we took a walk in the misty and foggy afternoon just to feed the ducks. We brought stale breads with us and just enjoyed the crazy and chaotic sound of glutton ducks and birds all fighting to have the bread we threw into the lake. For us, that was simple pleasure.

I always watch the migratory birds in our area during winter. There can be quite of them and it´s really refreshing to see them once in a while. Looking at the swarm of birds flocking on top of stones in the middle of the Danube river gives me chuckle. Are they isolated too?!

I was in awe particularly when I spotted these birds, all hanging out together in a cold Sunday morning. They flew in batches above my head and the sound they made is outstanding. Who would have imagined that simple bird watching can be therapeautic, beautiful and yes, reassuring.

Reasurring me that there are still lots of beauty outside even if at one glance it´s ugly.I quickly snapped few photos before my fingers turned completely frozen.

Fallen leaves, but not actually forgotten.

Officially, winter had just begun here in Germany. Today , the 27th of December was actually memorable to us here. Happened today is the first local resident from Ingolstadt received the Corona Vaccine, a radical start of vaccination, a sign of hope from our struggle to stop Corona from continuously spreading.

It is not grand but the beauty of Frost is quite fascinating.

I guess I also found a new Miracle marvel, a walk into nature and inhaling fresh air is definitely invigorating. My Sunday is blessed and I hope yours too!

There´s a kind of Autumn Hush

A walk in my neighborhood

I took a walk with my daughter last weekend through our neighborhood. The weather was great, I mean, for us here, it´s bearable than rainy and grey-cloudy days. Golden October finally said goodbye and we are finally approaching Winter. We are not really looking forward to the cold but Mr. Frost finally came, few days ago , he had a short visit, leaving us with a notice that he´ll stay longer next time.

Autumn in Bavaria

We have a beautiful Autumn feel in our neighborhood. I´ve seen far better views in other regions but during this Pandemic, the new norm is simply keeping distance, only-must-do travel and almost in isolation. I am still grateful.I am still in positive mind state so I am not complaining. Nature have graciously reminded me that everything will be alright soon.

Nature walks are far by the best…

My daughter goes to school now. She is an active first 1st Grade pupil .Here they normally refer to them as ” Shulkind“. A week ago, we received a letter from the school principal that one girl from other class have tested Positive from Covid-19. The next day, a teacher from the after-class day care is also Positive and then the following day, another pupil from another class tested Positive.

Do you get my message? It´s like a domino-effect and I just can´t stay still.

Children in school are separated in groups so the affected groups went to Quarantine.I think any parent would feel the alarm, a heartache, a tiresome worry that this Pandemic had brought to all of us. I was talking to my husband that you will never feel the weight of the stressfull times that Corona brings not until you are in that situation where you feel the threat for the life of your loveones. My daughter wears her masks from 7.30 am to 3.30 in the afternoon until she walks out from the school when I picked her up. they learn, they study, play and do everything with a masks!

Imagine that….

There is indeed a kind of Hush feeling all over the world.

But the loud silence we are hearing when we are out in nature is quite different..It is calming and somewhat juvenating.Of course we needed that, lots of it!

I diverted my thoughts and focus on the beautiful scenery in front of us.The small river in front of us is like a life size mirror with all the reflections of the trees, foliages and blue skies…It was magical! I imagined that it would be a total winter wonderland if this area would freeze and we can skate over here. There are ducks all over the place and they keep on doing their sounds. We forgot to bring old bread to feed the ducks so we just call them.

Quaacckkk Quaacckkk shouted my little girl!

I think it did the trick because the ducks and swans swam freely to us and made their stunts. They are beautiful…some things can be quite so simple and yet so meaningful!

Battling the cold battle…

While we were walking, she told me that she is waiting for her friends to go to the nearby playground. I explained to her that maybe they come or maybe they don´t. She said she hopes that everything returns to normal soon. I heard her…I wished that too.

As expected, a walk with nature always change our mood.We were busy looking for autumn leaves and looking at water reflections. The crystal clear waters of the Danube river and the area near the Glacisbrücke is really awesome. I walked further near to the bank and snap this photo.

Some trees are already bald, stiff and looked dreary, but some trees hold their leaves tightly, refusing to let go.Against the sunshine they remind me of my Autumn paintings. There is a lot of golden ochre yellows and rusty oranges colors that I see.I am telling you, as a self taught artist, I still find it so difficult to replicate the beauty of nature in landscape paintings.

I spotted these beautiful fragile beauties. I don´t know its name but hey reminded me of Cotton candy. It´s not yet covered in Frost but anyway they looked lovely.

My head can fit in this hollow hole of the Tree!

Have you taken a walk lately? How was it?

Please wear your masks and I wish you all a great start of the week!

Tschüss!

Mushroom Passion in Autumn

Passion in Autumn, Hunting for Mushrooms in Bavaria

Did you know that another Autumn highlights that many Germans loved to do in Autumn is Mushroom picking, hunting ( also known as Foraging)!

Autumn or Herbst is the perfect time to look for Mushrooms (in German it´s called Pilz).Mushroom is at its peak growth from September up to November, just before when it starts to frost, and the temperatures drop around 10 to 15 degrees. Mushrooms needs a combination of air, moist and light and the overnight air to become misty and moist. This season is the time of the year where you can see them in abundance! They just sprout everywhere! I haven´t really had this experience before, not until I lived here in Germany. I guess I just goes along with the fad. I know for sure that many Germans loved to enjoy themselves going into wilderness, soaking the Golden October, going for long walks and “Spaziergang” in Autumn, at the same time looking, ( some picks!) for Mushrooms!

I said to myself that I would try to look for mushrooms this year. Now I finally did it. Whenever I take a walk nowadays and do my routine running, I saw beautiful foliage , colorful nature, and it´s more like I am walking in a yellow arcades full of yellow, orange burnt brown leaves. The Foliage as well are bursting with colors of red and golden rust.

Crazy over Mushrooms!

Also, do you love to eat Mushroom?

Did you know that Germans love and adore Mushrooms? All year round, edible mushrooms are available in supermarkets.I´ve read that an average German eats at least 2.9kgs of Pilz ( Mushroom) per year more than any other countries in Europe! Come to think of it, last Sunday, I just devoured a giant Schnitzel with Champignonrahmsauce ( Mushroom sauce) and it was really delicious!

Sorry but I don´t know their names in particular order so I cannot educate you about their species. I just took notice of their size and key features. I noticed that in our area in Southern Germany, we don´t have much of the other varieties or the colorful ones. I guess they grow in other region. But then I found some interesting ones and I took a photo to make a journal of them, of course to share here in my Blog!

Mushroom Passion in Autumn season

I love to use fresh edible mushrooms when I cooked Pasta or as an an added ingredients in gravy sauces with meat. I love to sautee it together with vegetables because the flavour is really good and it is simply delicious.I never have tried eating a wild mushroom because I heard they can be poisonous.Rule of the thumb is that it´s better to really be careful handling them and leave it to experts. If you don´t know it, then it´s better to stay away from it.I found a very informative site about mushroom but it´s in German. I saw that some of the mushroom that I saw from my leisure walks are listed in this site, and it seems that 2021´s year´s Mushroom is the Grünling or Green compact Greenling.

I found the information stated in this site very useful since deaths caused by mushroom poisoning is really scary and tragic.

Autumn weather means more rain, moisture, and damp weather which paves way to their growth. Many days it is very foggy over here in Southern Bavaria so I think it adds more to the moist weather. I even see sometime a tiny mushroom in my indoor plants! They are like tiny creatures who pops up beneath the fallen leaves and trees. It is such a delight to see them in different sizes and shapes.

Generally speaking, colorful mushrooms are very toxic. They are nice and cute to look at but it´s better to take precautions handling them to avoid intoxication. Make sure not to touch them with your bare hands or for little children to play with.Never let your child pick it with bare hands if you are not really sure if its ok to touch.Remember that these Fungi are scary if its toxic. If you are in an area with lots of growing mushrooms and you wanna gather them, then it´s better to gather up some knowledge about what to do and what to get.

Autumn won´t be complete without Mushrooms
A Tiny mushroom buried in the bed of fallen leaves
This is literally a Mushroom Cloud!

Some are actually hard to spot since they are almost buried with the rest of the fallen leaves, but the cream, white caps are quite easy to see.

I really had a great time doing this and I´m sure I´ll be doing this every fall.I think this is also another reason to go out more into the woods and just enjoy the simple pleasures in life.Autumn is actually a beautiful season to reflect and meditate.

How about some more quiet readings ?
