I´ve always been fascinated by nature walks and hiking and this time, I explored the deepest rocky Gorge of Central Europe, the Breitachklamm. I have seen numerous Klamm or Gorges here in Bavaria but Breitachklamm is probably one of the best and it´s natural beauty is really something.Autumn colors are starting to be visible, adding excitement to my hungry eyes.I am curious to see the whole of this Gorge but first, we made a pit stop by the river, enjoying its calm beauty.

Together with my girl and my husband, we were the first visitor in this Gorge, it was awesome. The place was so quiet, peaceful and the weather–although a bit grey, still enjoyable. For the first half of an hour, the place is all by ourselves so I can make photos in peace. From the parking lot and ticket office, I heard already the thunderous sound of the river Breitach, then my heart started to race and get excited, my senses are fully awake and my mind is ready to immerse in this hike.

Breitachklamm Gorge is located in Kleinwalsertal, near Tiefenbach in the district of Oberstdorf. If you asked me why I love Bavaria so much? –it´s because of the endless nature paradise tucked here and everywhere. This trip was 2,5 hours drive and I have all access to mountain peaks, alpine lakes,Gorges, rivers and more jaw dropping landscape views!
I was planning to visit Oberstdorf last summer but we really haven´t got the time for it.I guess it´s because I had to see it in Herbst (or Fall) with its lovely autumn foliage.
Finally, a weekend in the Allgäuer Alps in southern Germany is something that really special to me. Of course, being in a holiday is not actually about seeing new places–for me it´s all about creating special memories- doing ordinary things, and most specially–finding balance for my mind, body and soul.

When we started the hike, my steps are grounded and I am taking it slow. All over ,we are surrounded with mountains, rocks , waterfalls, and the river Breitach, it felt great. No, it feels surreal, touching the splitted rock formations with gushing water, knowing that the power of water created this deep rock formation as high as 150 meters (490 ft.) in the past 10,000 years after the Würm ice age.

Walking in between the deep cuts of rocks made me feel so little, tiny and I am humbled by nature once again. My problems and worries are so minute compared to the great power of nature. My daughter was busy trekking, feeling the hike as well, and amazed by the amazing color of the water gushing in between rocks. It´s history in motion as she is curious as well how the rocks are splitted and the undeniably depth of this Gorge.

Many times, I just stood there, gazing up above and watching the water falls, finding my inner balance and just giving in to pure relaxation bliss. This inexpensive treat to mxself is much more than it seems, its really a theraphy for the soul.

Rocks suspended in between cliffs and defies the laws of gravity.

It is such a wonder that an iceberg collapsed and melted in this same spot, giving birth to the Breitach river and with the help of modern technology, people like me can enjoy this paradise.
The pathways are well secured but it is necessary to wear sturdy shoes that has better grip since the rocks are slippery and wet.Even on a rainy day, a walk through Breitachklamm is no waste at all!

Along the way, I´ve enjoyed the glimpses of shy autumn light creeping into the narrow recesses in between the rocks. As we walked up higher and higher, the views gets even more amazing. It´s so true with the saying “No guts, No Glory” .The hike itself is very relaxing, some points are relaxing but some brought our pulses alive , our sore feet wandered with eagerness and curiosity, but then as we looked at the view, our hearts are in bliss. No room for complaints.

I taught my child to love nature at an early age.Even the time that she´s still in a stroller, we frequented the mountains, visited many Gorges and hike mountains, with tantrums and all.Nature is a powerful endorphin- machine that can make or tame the most rebellious and laziest kid.Kids nowadays are really different and most of the time, they just wanted to sit and play with their gadgets.I don´t understand them sometimes–time changes everything and this generation is completely different than mine.
But nature, staying active outdoors gives us all the time to log off and tune -in to something else!

This Gorge can also be hiked during the Winter where the gushing waters turned into icicles, making the Gorge a beautiful Winter wonderland.

Once we ascended and back to the valley, the parking lot is already full–with campers, busses and eager families and even more nature lovers. We´ve had a share of the wonderful hike in Breitachklamm and brought home happy memories once again.I had a great impression of the village and once again amazed by the Alpine country living here in Allgäu , cows , Huts and all.
It was a great start of that day after all.
