HAUS STEHT KOPF -This House is upside down!

I still fell dizzy while I am looking at this photo. I can still remember how crazy it is to see this architectural gem we found while driving through the Vomper Bach in Terfens in the Inn Valley. Our main destination was Maurach to admire the Karwendel mountains but we made a pit stop here.

My husband discovered it during their company outing to Tirol so he decided to let us see this place. It´s the Haus steht Kopft or simply the ” Upside Down House” which is perfect for families.

Have you ever seen a house tilted in 180 degrees? In this place, your sense of balance will be challenged.

It stands on the peak of it´s roof instead on a foundation and you walk on it´s ceiling instead of it´s floor. The moment we get inside all I can hear is “Whoaaa“… I could not even describe what I am feeling since it´s something that I did not expect at all. I thought it was just a normal 3D museum .

I am trying to analyze how am I feeling…am I dizzy, flustered, or what kind of motion-sickness am I feeling? All i know that inside it feels weird, it´s unique, but we all loved it!

Everything in this fully furnished house is built upside down! The fine details like garden tools, bicycle, pots and even decorations are placed on it´s right places, only that all of them are hanging above your head. It´s like they´ve build a house, furnished it, and then they´ve changedd their mind and turned the whole house upside down.

This is how it looks on the inside.

It´s one of a kind experience to see normal furnitures like couches, chairs, cabinets and tables hanging from the ceiling. The bathroom seemed like an alien space to me since the whole space defies the law of gravity. What would you do when nature calls?

How would you wash the dishes or take a shower?

There´s an old BW Beetle hanging in the garage can be admired from below and what´s amazing is that the floor in the childrens room are super tidy…with the TV upside down of course! This reminds me of the Kieferortopedie room of my daughter where there´s also a TV on the ceiling so children can be entertained while the Dentist do their job. Quite a distraction but it really works.`There´s an old BW Beetle hanging in the garage can be admired from below and what´s amazing is that the floor in the childrens room are super tidy…with the TV upside down of course! I noticed that once I stepped on the ceiling, the slope was quite noticeable since it´s actually built crooked. There are total of 10 rooms inside this house which is distributed in two levels.Because of it´s sloping position,if you look out from the window you can see the cars driving “uphill“. I wonder what would a baby do when he/she tries to crawl from the floor..!?

The whole concept of changing the perspective on how you view things is really amazing and we are all happy about this whole experience.Included in the ticket is also a trip inside the Dinoland where children can enjoy a variety of Dinosaurs. My daugther is not so much anymore with Dinosaurs (before she was..!) but then we decided to check it out as well.It was actually very informative and we loved the Insects and Butterfly museum.

And outside, we saw lot´s of cows hanging from the ceiling as well, of course, upside down!

Sometimes, all we need is a bit of chnage of perspective and this trip really made our day!
