FOTD : The rose of sharon

While exploring Changdeokgung Palace and Jongmyo Shrine in Soeul, this flower caught my attention. It looked so familiar to me. Of course, I grew up in Asia so Hibiscus are very common to me. They looked so alike, and the more I digged in, the more I realized that they came from the same genus–the Hibiscus family.

Rose of Sharon falls under the genus Hibiscus, making it a cousin of other popular Hibiscus varieties. See, even flowers have families and shares common attributes.Essentially, all Rose of Sharons are Hibiscus, but not all Hibiscus are Rose of Sharons. The plant traditionally labeled ‘Hibiscus’ as a common name is actually called Chinese Hibiscus, or Rose of China.
