Ladies Run Germany 2020

One of my Bucket list is doing a Marathon Run. Yes, I wanted to earn something like that, I wanted to do running, but then I know it takes guts and sweat. I think I would drop at the first kilometer or so. And nope, I am not looking for a new Hobby because I think I have too many already…but anyway, why run?

Then one day I just decided to do it…

The goal is to run and finish it…

I think it´s just human nature to dream about something, or putting something into a goal, even if its scary. I have a fast metabolism and I can say that I´m a very active person. I can only count the days where I feel sluggish or couching. But I´ve always felt that despite of this, I don´t feel physically fit, I feel tired, exhausted and though I don´t have too much cellulite to loose, I felt like something is missing in my stamina. I read a lot about running and it really strikes to me as something radical.

Even if you don’t consider yourself a numbers person, there’s no way you can ignore the stats on daily running and reduced cancer risk. According to medical science, if you run a mile every day, you have: 42% lower risk of esophageal cancer, 27% lower risk of liver cancer, 26% lower risk of lung cancer, 23% lower risk of kidney cancer, 16% lower risk of colon cancer, and 10% lower risk of breast cancer. Amazing, right?

I didn´t know that running can make me feel so good like this…

Running after all is not all about winning a race. It´s all about taking care of yourself, of finding the inner peace and doing good to your muscles and health being. There are also many cons about it but then it doess more good to your body. I love the fact that it elevates the happiness-induced chemicals in our bodies.

“When you run, your brain pumps out two powerful feel-good chemicals, endorphins and endocannabinoids. “

Besides, who can complain when you are running with a view like these?

I´ve always admire people who are into Sports, esp. runners. Those slim, lithe, strong ladies who run fast as fast as lightning and have beautiful athletic legs.they are invincible! For me, they are like gods, they are resilient and STRONG.I know it requires training, but then I know that what they are doing scares and challenging me at the same time…I´ve always asked myself If I can also do it?How far could I go, 3 km, 5 km, 15km, or 25km?

Running on a sunny day with the view of the River Danube

But that is a good kind of scare.

I actually did not expect my first run to be a virtual run! Of course because of Corona virus. Running with a goal alone is totally different against competing with others. As a beginner, It is a real struggle and no joke. It´s not actually about winning, its about doing something that you have never done before, and this is something that I have never done befogre. I was always hesitant and giving in to that small voice inside me that tells me to quit and don´t do it.

Is cycling better than running?

But then because of the Corona Virus Pandemic, marathon and sport running like this comes with restrictions! Running without the great crowds is also not that bad, in fact, it works for me the best. No distraction, no contact with others. It doesn´t matter where you are, with your friends or alone, Ladies Run Germany is definitely a good cause. This event is only for ladies who wants to run and do Nordic Walking for at least 5km as a start!

Nevertheless, it was a great experience and I absolutely will do it again and again.I think I got addicted to the end feeling when I am purged with sweat, plustered, worn out and stomach- empty! I can´t explain it but it´s a great feeling. When my muscles aches, it´s a kind of hurt that I am proud of. When I saw my dirty shoes and my wet sport clothes goes into the laundry, I know I got rid of something that I never like. It´s kind of getting addictive and I really look forward to run because my body feels better , stronger and healthier!

My Ladies Run Finisher Medal

I know that I finally found what sport I really love to do for the rest of my life. Now that I can still run, then I am going to do it.If I don´t run now, then when ? I am very grateful that I live in a neighborhood that people loves to run and we have great nature to enjoy. There are plenty of running paths to choose from. Aside from my usual leisure walkings, now I have more stamina to do long runs. I run almost 5 times a week, which I did mostly in the morning hours, sometimes late in the afternoon . It actually varies depending when I am free. Running on late afternoon is also great especially when I avoid too much heat from the sun.

Ladies Run Germany is a virtual run organized by Hikimus Events.Once I saw the advertisement about this event, I immediately registered to join the run on July 13, 2020. I only paid 25 Euros for the “Gold” Packet which includes a T-shirt, finisher medal, a certificate, and a chance to win the Event Game. It was an easy transaction and I received my packet on time before the event. I absolutely think that It´s a great idea to have something like this during this hard times. We need to be reminded that our health is our number one priority nowadays and we should do whatever it takes to protect us from Corona and staying fit. It´s great seeing all the other ladies all over Germany doing the same as I did, in fact they did more!

I admit that it was never easy. My muscles ache and my feet hurts. I gasped for air and I felt like giving up on the first days of my running routine.. They say that it takes at least 28 days for you to pick up a habit and It´s true.Everyday I desire for motivation and put back myself together to get it done. What helps me is also doing cardio exercises at home.

I run together with a friend and it was really fun.It helps to use a running App to track your distance goal and your progress each day. I realize that running for a daily mile is something doable–its not always because you want to lose weight. For me, it paves more for more time spent outdoors and staying fit.

You must do the things that you think you can´t do….

I know that for busy mothers like me, adapting anew sport and schedule can be challenging. But then, we need to be healthy as well to take care our kids. That’s an extra advantage for busy women who can’t seem to make other workouts or classes fit their lifestyle.” And remember: The best workout is the one you’ll actually do.

What´s the last thing that you have done that challenged you?

Crossing Borders and taking the Leap!

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

The other day, February 29 is a Leap Year Day!  Have you known? I asked this because I have a funny trip to Memory Lane unconsciously…Sometimes I really need to check the calendar what date it is, or what is what on a particular day.

Yes, this year we have 366 days as opposed to a common year which has only 365 days.

Were you aware that in our present year 2016, we have an entire extra 24 hours? Oh how I wished I have this extra 24 hours to make up on sleep. For new Mamas out there, I know you can relate to this. Really,I’m telling you, Sleep has never been the same since I had my daughter 🙂 But this post is not about sleep- deprived mothers or calendar tracking. This is about Taking the leap & crossing Borders.

Now there is a long-winded, mathematical explanation why we need Leap years to keep our modern day Gregorian calendar in alignment with the earth’s revolution around the sun.Because seasons and astronomical events do not repeat in the equivalent of 24 hours period, calendars that have the same number of days in each year  drift over time.

Imagine, if we don’t have an extra day in February every 4 years , then after only 100 years our calendar would be inaccurate by 24 days!

Border stone between Nederland & Deutschland

I resonate  the nostalgic feeling of a Leap day  when Crossing borders. Crossing Borders meaning that you are physically taking a step into boundaries. It is a whole state of yourself being in two places at a given time. Its the frozen moment that you want to hold as a memory. A leap that you have made. In Metaphysics, the theory of Impenetrability does not coincide in this where in quality of matter whereby two bodies cannot occupy the same space at the same time. When we try to incorporate science in our daily sane lives, it gets a bit complicated so I’ll just stock to my own account of events.

In my experience, I was really thrilled when I did the ” crossing borders”. I find it fascinating. It  takes a courageous heart to do so. There is a sense of haste as you go through the journey. A hype feeling knowing you have the liberty to roam around, without limit, without control.

The path along the long journey  into taking small steps into  Leaps.

The journey maybe a long-winding road, but it could also be the most worthwhile ride you can have. Personally, I did not focus on the length of the journey, rather, I  linger on the beautiful scenery that we passed along. I let my eyes feast on it. The towering trees and the shadows it casted, the unusual plants & the blooming flowers ,  that distinct character and detail I have seen in the local neighborhood such as the post with a different paint, or a beautiful detail in the roof of the houses ,  I record everything in my mind and created a mental slideshow. The smell of the woods. The footprints in the ground. A memory.

Signpost : Do not forget where you came from and where you want to go.

Now a border stone, pillar or obelisk can stand as a hurdle in your life that you need to struggle to make a leap. A border fence is somewhat a present day barrier that confines you and make you less free to wander.

Do you ever felt you are trapped?

Do you see your weakness as Border stones that can never be overcome? and making you hesitant to take the step to leap on?

I knew this feeling.I have been there many times. I felt like my life is only moving sideways, and not moving forward. But I took the chance, the risk, and I overcame.

What struggles have you won  or leaped to ?

In Crossing borders and taking a one step leap , the possibilities are endless. The best thing about what I have learned from this approach is that you won’t be losing any precious times. Crossing borders means going out from your comfort zone, taking chances & risks, and overcoming a struggle. A leap is the first step you do to make these things happen. This two goes hand in hand. Your heart, your mind and your body working in harmony.

Have you tick something in your Bucket List  lately? (something that can be done in 24 hours , or a long weekend)

When was the last time you have enjoyed a long, lazy brunch with your family or close friends ? This is the best and precious gift we can give to those we love. (Bonus : leave your phone silent, inside your purse and don’t make a selfie )

Have you thought about paying a visit to someone you haven’t seen for ages?

Have you tried sending a meaningful snail mail to someone you knew who lived miles away from you?

I wish you all the best in making the first steps to make a Leap, and crossing that Border.

Are you an early riser? a nature lover?

Do you make an effort to wake up early just to watch the sun rises?

When was the last time you let your eyes wander at the changing palette of the skies when the sun sets?

“Someday you will find the one who will watch every sunrise with you until the sunset of your life.”

Personally, I think that you don’t need to be a romantic or a poet to be able to appreciate the magic of watching the sunrise & sunsets. This is one of the most amazing things in our world that we can appreciate everyday, the best things is- It is  FREE!  Life gives us a wonderful slideshow of beautiful nature that is displayed for all of us to see.

“People are just as wonderful as sunsets if you let them be. When I look at a sunset, I don’t find myself saying, “Soften the orange a bit on the right hand corner.” I don’t try to control a sunset. I watch with awe as it unfolds.”

The beauty of Sunset in Philippines  is also incomparable

Changing colors of the Sky..Nature’s palette.

Many times that I felt like my eyes are filled with worries about life, I try to watch a sunset and suddenly my mood changes.  It’s a proven mood booster. Then I make it a habit to appreciate the sunrise every morning and gaze with a grateful heart at the sunset at the end of the day. I promise to myself that whenever possible, if I have a chance, then I strive to be an agile sun chaser. I should know where to find the sunrise and sunset times and note how the sky looks at those times, at least once. One of the things that I do whenever I am in a new place is to watch how the sun rises or catch a sunset. It’s the perfect souvenir I am taking in.Watching the sun sets relaxes me and it gives me enough inspiration, enough reason to be grateful to end a healthy day & look forward for another day. Living as an Expat allows me to see different horizons where in the sun creates a natural painting that no artist can ever replicate. If you would check out my camera roll, photos of sunrise and sunsets are abundant. It really become my most favorite subject for photography.

Nowadays that we live in a smartphone era, it is very hard to take away our eyes from our phone that we neglect the beauty that readily awaits for us to see. May your busyness leads you to right vistas, to lasting beauty of sunrise and sunset.

“If your eyes are blinded with your worries, you cannot see the beauty of the sunset.”

~Jiddu Krishnamurti
