Spring Chronicles :Unforgettable Tulips Amsterdam Experience

Ah Spring, the season where flowers and spring blooms displays their outmost beauty and wonder.Everyone´s seemed to be happy, alive with new spirits and eager to do some gardening! For me, when I think of Spring, Tulips and Cherry blossoms comes to my mind.

This is a late post but thankfully I still managed to finish it.One of the reasons I looked forward every spring is seeing tulips sprout in our little garden and around my neighbours´s charming nooks. The sight of their fragile petals always makes me happy. The joy of seeing them starts from late Autumn where I plant the bulbs together with the Hyacinths and Daffodils. Here are some highlights of our visit to the Tulip Amsterdam Experience.

Beautiful things always take time so Spring indeed is worth all the wait!

Last Easter break, we managed to visit Netherlands again and went further to the region of Lisse, near Keukenhof, as far as Noordwijkerhout to gaze and be mesmerized again by the Tulip enigma.I cannot think of another magnificent icon of the Netherlands other than Tulips.Of course there´s the windmills, cheese and Clogs! It is just a wonderful flower.Actually there are more tulip fields in the area but we chose this one because it offers more for visitors to admire, take photos, and learn more about tulip cultivation. The place itself was easy to find and parking is included.Eversince I´ve seen Keukenhof, I have high respect for dutch farmers and the yearly tulip season. It is not just really a flower season, it is a celebration of a nation´s legacy, symbolizing its wonderful tradition.

While driving near Amsterdam in the direction of Lisse, we are greeted with different sea of colours, chilly breeze, and warm Dutch hospitality.I was really smiling because I am the only non-Dutch in our trip and I was the one bringing them to this attraction. The beautiful sight of the outdoor show garden really took our breath away once again.More than 4 million tulips are displayed with at least 700 varieties that I lost count on them. Every bulb exude its own beauty, charm and yes-wonder.I can´t find the right adjective to describe them. Looking at the mass of tourists–old, young, children, men and women , families, all of them are smiling when they are looking at this flower.

I find the audio tour really helpful, especially for enthusiasts who really wanted to know where did this iconic Flower came from. The walking tour shows that from Kazakhstan in year 1000, up to 1950´s where tulip cultivation began in the Netherlands with the aid of machines and the rest is history in the making.

The first tulip bulbs arrived in the Netherlands in 1563. The renowned botanist Carolus Clusius planted them in the Hortus Botanicus (botanical gardens) in Leiden, where the tulips became so popular that people broke in to steal the bulbs. This marked the unofficial (more or less criminal) start of tulip cultivation in the Netherlands.

There´s this cozy Farmer´s market where they sell the cutest tulip souvenirs and flowering summer bulbs.I went here with my in Laws so we also took a break in the coffee corner “De Witte Zwaan” where I found this yummy Tulip cheesecake. There are on going art exhibitions in the display hall and another thing that made our visit memorable was that I was able to bring home some Tulips from the indoor garden where we can pick our own tulips. I planted the bulbs in the garden and I am so looking forward to see them bloom next year!

I think Tulipsighseeing is an amazing thing that is happening in the Netherlands every Spring.I have never seen such amount of people visiting the Bulb region as I have seen in the regions of Noth Holland and Keukenhof! Tulips really turned the world upside down. The Tulip Mania is a fascinating era in the early 17th-century history during which a flower – the much loved tulip – became the centre of the world’s first economic bubble!

Indeed, flowers speaks a language that is hard to understand.

How was your Spring experience so far?

Until then, Tschüß!
